It looked just like that 50 years ago when I was studying dentistry at Loyola. If my father was alive he would say the same thing, but his memory would be of 80 years ago. When I see it today, my heart is heavy, I know it isn't really exactly what I remember. Now it's also made me tear for the city I loved.

Lovely. Timeless, really. It makes me think the French Quarter must be as much a state of mind as a place.

Jules, The French Quarter didn't flood in the hurricane. It is built along the river which is the highest part of the city (long before levees the river overflowed and built up its banks. The area along the river that includes the French Quarter and uptown is now affectionately known as "the Sliver on the River" -- an enviable place to live.
