More from our trip along the Mississippi Gulf Coast on the 4th of July. This board walk, twisted as it was, still held onto the ground below it. The walkway toward where I am shooting the camera and the walkway beyond this section were both gone.
Below, storm clouds gathering as we left New Orleans -- maybe a warning for the day ahead.
We headed off with the top down on my wife's convertible, just sight seeing. We had to put the top up several times because of rain or drizzle. The mostly bare beaches seemed clean and inviting. The water was about as cloudy as the skies. We pulled into the casino in Gulfport for lunch -- a delicious buffet with boiled shrimp and other delights. The casino hall wasn't packed but it was comfortably full.
It was a fun relaxing day.
In the DP portal your first photo reminded me of Gulfport. Was it taken there?

You are a great photographer. You need to do a session with my kiddos. I love the first picture- it looks like a scene from a horror movie or something. Sullivan would have fun running trains of the edge.

ReplyDeletePS I ike your blogs on porches. Here we call them verandahs, Funny thing: the Anglo-Australian front verandah doesn't get used very much - as people tend to live their lives out in the beackyeard. BUT I live in a very non-Anglo area, and the verandah is well-used indeed...men with backgammon and hookahs, women with trays of sweetmeats.....watching kids play and chatting. My son has dragged an old chair from a hard-rubbish pick up on to our front verandah, and we also have low-slung brick work. he and his (non-Anglo) mates often sit out there playing Dragonball Z cards, or tazo games.....or whatever....(my verandah featured in June 1 theme day).

Pre-Katrina, Gulfport was a favored family getaway. My parents went last summer and were stunned by how much was just gone - wiped out. I hope more than casinos will be rebuilt there.
