What's that?
This is a "what is it?" post. I caught this flower in the French Quarter of New Orleans near the Cafe Du Monde. It's strange looking, but really eye catching. I don't have a clue what it is. Do you?
Other City Daily Photo blogs today with flower shots --
It seems that summer is still in full reign in the South - green and exuberant. Lovely! It awakes nostalgia in a Midwesterner heart - of summer which is gone. I wonder, how does southern autumn look like? Does it ever get as colourful and beautiful as the famous New England fall? I'm looking forward to get a glimps of New Orleans' autumn through your pictures.
P.S. Thank you for visiting my blog and for your kind comments!
It's Hymenocallis caroliniana and you can goggle it. But I would call it a spider lily or a swamp lily, and if you goggle these common names you will find lot different lilies.
Tiia -- we don't get the brilliant yellows and orange here as they do up north. Occasionally we get a hard freeze early and we get a display of colors, but nothing to compare to the autumns up north.
Aloha! I posted a photo of the same lily on my blog the other day with the same questions! (Thanks for the info Tog), I had never seen it before and as I have recently purchased my new property, I had no idea what it was when it started blooming...it is a incredible bloom, very striking and this is a lovely pic of it!
