It seems that summer is still in full reign in the South - green and exuberant. Lovely! It awakes nostalgia in a Midwesterner heart - of summer which is gone.

It's Hymenocallis caroliniana and you can goggle it. But I would call it a spider lily or a swamp lily, and if you goggle these common names you will find lot different lilies.
ReplyDeleteTiia -- we don't get the brilliant yellows and orange here as they do up north. Occasionally we get a hard freeze early and we get a display of colors, but nothing to compare to the autumns up north.

(Thanks for the info Tog), I had never seen it before and as I have recently purchased my new property, I had no idea what it was when it started blooming...it is a incredible bloom, very striking and this is a lovely pic of it!
i like the name spider lily better than swamp lily. it's a great flower.
