Pelican pals

This pair of Brown Pelicans came flying by the other day, just looking for something to eat. I love to watch them skim just inches over the water looking for fish, but they move so fast, I have never been able to get a clear picture of them doing that. When they are standing on the ground, they look so awkward, but when they are skimming, they are the epitomy of grace.

I love your pelican photos, Steve.

When we were in FL, I managed to get a few photos of the pelicans diving and hitting the water. DH loves the pelicans, so I wanted to get some nice ones for him (with a point-n-shoot...LOL). I was showing DS the good ones I captured, and he laughed and said "yeah, it only took you about 75 photos to get those". Sad, but true. That's why I haven't weeded them out for Flickr yet.

Super shot, Steve. I'm especially proud to see it since it illustrates an important part in the Dave Robicheaux novel I finished reading earlier today, "Crusader's Cross." I know that eventually you will get a skimming photo. I wonder if your camera has a sport setting if that would work to capture them in their glory? I use it to take photos of flowers blowing in the wind.
