Enduring fancyLocal restauranteur Al Copeland has been for decades a colorful part of Christmas in New Orleans with his decorations on his Metairie lakefront home. This year was no different -- crowds pass by in cars and gawk in slow procession (note the traffic cones at the bottom of the picture). Many disembark to get an up close feel for the bright and busy display.
As you may notice, the display does not tend toward the mono-color lights that seem popular these days.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why the four poles were in the middle of the lake. But they were just one of the actors in this scene. Another was the black swath of a weather front stretched thin on the horizon.

Would I be expressing an iconoclastic aspect if I said that I much prefer the spectacle of the four posts. I'd drive by in awe of that over and over and over again but I might drive by the Christmas lights only once.
so many Christmas lights everywhere - not least in Monte Carlo. Truth is I prefer the stunning naturalness of colour in your beautiful photograph on Pixel Eyed today. Both super pics tho as always on your blogs.

I agree with Annie and Jilly ... but love the shot of the Sunset Stroll ... I think "lights" like fireworks are sort of overdone, overrated and over there.

A comment about Copeland's. . .We were so thrilled when they opened two restaurants here. Both closed within a few years, unfortunately.

Sorry, I got behind on commenting. This a great and colorful photo. So festive it gets me in the mood to finish up my shopping..only two gifts left.
All that color and light reminds me of the old-fashioned colorful displays of my childhood. I think the current trend of just twinkly white lights is boring. Pretty, but dull.
