It's hard to distinguish fact from fiction about Voodoo in New Orleans. This shop in the French Quarter is one of several in the city. Many claim a large number of residents of the city practice the voodoo arts, brought to the area in the 1700's from Africa via Santo Domingo (Haiti) or other Carribean stop overs. Santo Domingo was said to be the birth place of the the famous Voodoo queen, Marie Laveau, of who tales and legends abound.There is no doubt that a marketing industry has built up around the superstitions, healing charms and spells of the religion -- such as this site.

Well, that's it. Someone has a doll of me, and sticking it in the hip with a pin. Seriously, have had a severe pain in my hip for a few days...went to the doc today and it a nerve prob. that can be fixed. So Steve..stop sticking me with that pin.
This is one shop...I would not visit!
Ohhhhh, I stay as far away from voodoo as I can! You know who is behind those superstitions!
A really cool place that I never have seen in person. I just heard on TV yesterday that it is still not even close to being back to normal (the city) after Katrina. I hope it all comes back together soon.
Good picture with all the different colors and wear but nope Voodoo isn't for me. It gives me the willies.

Love the photo and the colours - those walls, great shutters. The idea of voodoo tho scares me to death. I'd run a mile. I remember reading about it in that great book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Admittedly about Savannah but also voodoo.
I think I vaguely recall this store from my last visit to the Vieux Carre and that was only, oh, thirty years ago.
The best shop name I've seen in ages...
I was given a real African voodoo doll so I put her in a box-frame just in case she got up to no good - luckily all is ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, o.......
