Fishing for the perfect shot

Another look at our friends Sam and Theresa's fish pond in their back yard. It was fascinating to watch the fish fathoming the clear, dark waters. The sun could only get a ray or two through the umbrella of the giant oak that loomed overhead. But where it did, it painted the pebbles on the bottom with a golden tint. As I moved around the pond to capture a good shot of the Koi fish, they always seemed to find a way to keep a lily pad between me and them, that is until Theresa came out with some fish pellets. An occasional pellet would bring them out into the open, but I had to work quick because they would scoot back to lily-pad darkness in just seconds.

Wow, Steve ~~ what great shots you got of the fish in the pond. Love that dark water.

BTW thanks for you comments on my Sunday blog...the church we visited turned out to be just delightful, and guess what ~~ it was Communion Sunday there so I was able to fellowship with these nice people and share communion.
Thanks for knowing how we feel!

I think we have had three or four ponds with fish in the 46 years we have lived here and in one I had used a washing machine motor and pump to keep the water flowing and protected the inlet to the pump with screen wire. I went out to the pond one morning and found fish scales everywhere. Here the screen got moved and the fish went through the pump. And another time we had a larger pond with a bridge and some big fish and one morning the fish were all gone. The culprits were raccoons who love to catch captive fish. So, I quite ponding....

Great photo and even better description. Wildlife can be a challenge. I suspect Abe can give us a lot of tips on the subject.

Congratulations on reaching 400 photos.

That is such a beautiful shot, Steve. The colors are so nice together when they contrast against the dark water.

what wonderful colors, Steve. I wonder how long it would take my cats to catch one?
