Riding out the storm can be done in style, as this young man shows in Perdido Key, Florida, where we were holed up, in windy and sometimes tropical storm conditions.
It looks as if we will not be able to go back to New Orleans until Thursday or Friday. They have to make the streets safe from the ravages of Hurricane Gustav. Meanwhile, our cabin-fever has become acute, so we are driving up and down the beach road.

I always marvel at those surfers. Whenever there is a storm warning here -- they're out in droves. This is a great shot, Steve. Cabin-fevered and temporarily displaced and you STILL got it!
Glad you are safe and that Gustav didn't do Katrina damage.
Glad to hear that you're ok. This is a great action shot - look at his face!
MAD... isn't that dangerous!?
Great shot Steve. And thank goodness Gustav didn't do his worst. Hope you get back home soon as poss.
I'm glad you got out of town safely and I hope you enjoyed your trek through Mississippi! I heard on the radio that there were volunteers walking up and down stretches of highway handing out sandwiches and drinks. Not sure if it was on your route, but I hope you got a little taste of our hospitality at least. :)
Glad to hear you guys are ok . Now if I had to be displaced, I would head for the coast. Eat some boiled shrimp and some fried snapper for me! Great pic you got today. Guess I could look on the internet and see what kind of weather you are having in Perdido right now. HOpe you didn't suffer any damage to your home.

That looks a little scary with the surf so high - but fun! Sorry you are going to be in Florida until the end of the week, but glad you are safe and sound!
We hope that you all are sound & safe.
Cheers from Rose City
Glad to hear you're OK. Hope you can get home soon.
Fantastic capture!
Hope everything is ok when you come back to N.O.
Hope all is well when you return home!
As for the surfer: NUTS!

Steve, glad you're safe and well, if a bit stir crazy. There are worse places to be right now than Florida!
I think surfing in that is nuts, but then again I live near a fault line.
Nice shot, and glad Gustav took it easy on New Orleans. Hope your back soon. We can wait to be down there in October to enjoy the food, music, and the beignets of course.
I think that I'd stick to the spa at the hotel!
At least you were able to make something of a beach trip out of Gustav, but I know you are ready to be home.
Great shot, by the way.
Continuing to think about you and your family. I hope you can go home soon.
These surfers are crazy ,me thinks.
I guess they like to court trouble.
