Hard to predict.

This black swan was getting pretty comfortable with me at Lafreniere Park the other day, but still kept a 10-foot buffer, just in case. The black swan is another of the non-indigenous species in this area. It is of Australian origin and brought to America to grace ponds.

The black swan has a particularly unique position in literature and metaphors, owning to a belief centuries ago in Europe that all swans were white. The term came to stand for rare, hard-to-predict, high impact events. If you're interested to find out more read here.

By the way, if you are a regular reader, you may have noticed that I am making some changes to the web site. Unfortunately, Blogger ate some of my widgets. Bear with me. All will be back soon.

Lovely shot . I don't know that I have ever seen a black swan and certainly didn't know their beak was so colorful. One of my favorite books to read to my third graders was TRUMPET OF THE SWAN by EB White. BTW, did you get the photo I emailed? If not I will give it another go. And congrats on winning the contest!

What a gorgeous bird, the red contrasts beautifully with the black. I have only seen these in photos.

Very fine image of this bird, Steve.

Blogger has gotten very buggy. Blogger has a bug that dislikes the Mac OS 10 and causes an interminable number of crashes when doing anything in Blogger. This has been going on for 22 weeks and Blogger has yet to post it on their "known issues" page, despite daily reports from "Louis" every time it happens. "Louis" knows of other bloggers using Macs that have have the same problem. Then Blogger ate the graphics on "Louis's" two French blogs. "Louis" gave up. He's in the process of moving his blogs to a new host...

A beautiful picture of the Black Swan. Being across the ditch from Australia, this beautiful bird is a common site in New Zealand as well. Unlike the mute white swan, the black swan voices a musical bugling. Really a beautiful creature

That certainly isn't an ugly duckling:)

I have never seen a black swan before. Thanks for sharing!

I like the looks of your blog. I always think of changing mine, but it seems like so much trouble. Good luck!
