Hair cut

Canal Street is getting a new face. It started before Katrina and the construction is really starting to shape up. Part of that is these new palm trees. But, palm trees apparently don't stay green enough, so crews have to come trim off the dead or dying leaves (the yellow ones in the picture). Notice the scale of this work, though. At each new tree, the bucket truck has to be moved and the blue tarps have to be repositioned.

I wonder how often the palms have to get a little off the top.

Very unusual picture and it demonstrates the scale very well. The crew must be exhausted by the end of the day, don't you think?

Interesting perspective. Looks like a lot of work, but I'm glad they are taking care of these beautiful trees.

I would think it is a lot of work too. I know my son has palm trees at his house and in his city and I don't think they do this. I suppose it might be a different kind of tree.

Nice photo of the process.

They certainly are taking a lot of care, what with moving the tarps for each tree. I expected they'd let the dead branches fall where they may, and pick them up when they were done trimming. I guess the tarps are to protect the brick work below?

I love the looks of palm trees. Probably because I don't have them around my area.

Those are the yellow flowers that will ultimately produce the dates that will fall to the ground and make a mess on the sidewalk.

Great perspective. Is it a view from your flat/house. If yes it's very nice.

This is high technology to trim a palm. I remember in Cairns, the guys used to climb the trees and lop them manually, as it were. Ditto here in the south of France.

Tara, "I guess the tarps are to protect the brick work below?"

They weren't setting any speed records here.

I shot this from the parking garage across the street. I like to park on the 10th floor (the top) where it is open to the sky. Great view, great pictures.
