Library

This is one of New Orleans public libraries. It sits on St. Charles Avenue and commands an impressive view from the street. The library is still suffering some of the ill effects of the hurricane -- you can't necessarily see it here (maybe by clicking on it for the large view) bu several of the terra cotta tiles (for instance) on the roof are missing and have temporary patches in their place. I love the big expansive porch. You can see that the lights on the left stay on to keep it from looking too dark.

This is an impressive place. I liked how it was set back from the street, on higher ground. It always seemed important.

The building looks as interesting as what it contains!

A public library on St. Charles Avenue? I don't remember the building. But then I used the Loyola library. Was it near the university or nearer to the Orlean Club(the ladies club). My memory is from 50 years ago.

What a lovely library! Was it built as a library, or was it a mansion in another life?

I do recall this building but never knew it was a library. Hope it will be repaired and last many more years.

What a fantastic and impressive looking library!! I'm sure the kids have a fantastic time when they go to such a wonderful building to read and borrow books.

I love those old buildings on St Charles. What striked (?) me is the luxuriant vegetation all around.
Great architecture. Which reminds me I have to ask you to post some "shotgun" houses one of these days. I need a crash course: I went to N.O. just a few months before Katrina and fought all w.e. long with my friend about that (this is a shotgun - no, THIS is a shotgun - ...).
