My yard poureth over.

Many lots in New Orleans Uptown are 25 feet wide or 30 feet wide by maybe 100 feet. That doesn't give a lot of room to be a good gardener. I was walking down Laurel Street upriver from Napolean Avenue one day when this caught my eye.

When you just want the beauty of nature around you and you have limited space, you just have to let it spill over to the outside.

Then I started to notice quite a few homeowners had made little expressions like this.

I could only find one "fun with flowers" photo today on City Daily Photo pages:

Happy =) -- Saarbrücken Daily Photo

But may I suggest you ramble through some of the other CDP sites -- you have thumnail photos to guide you here:

Wow, those colours are just spilling onto the pavement, aren't they. How awesome would it be to come home to that each day.

I posted a photo on this subject recently. The title was August 27, 2007 - Landscaping at Falls Park and it was all about the technique of letting the flowers spill on to the walkway. Maybe we learned this technique from New Orleans.

Delightful sight. I'd love to take a stroll down that gorgeous street.

weLL steve,
Most people aren't holding back they do a lot gardening, with little space, as they also do here in NAARDEN but also in big cities such as Amsterdam.....they just take on street stone away and make a little garden... so funny:)

BTW:
Thanks for voting ( 2 Details) the score is 6 for B&w and 6 for colour, sooo uhhh...even.:)

just yesterday i was mentioning it to my hosband how nice it would be if after school, we could ditch the partment-living and instead have a little house with a teeny weeny garden patch....guess, once i have one, i'll let mine spill over too....:)

aah steve. Those flowers are so pretty. There's nothing quite like walking down a street and stumbling upon a lovely, colourful garden such as this. :)

Like your title and the splashes of color on the sidewalk. It looks like a wonderful neighborhood.

Aww, I love this. That is what I loved when visiting your beautiful city before Katrina. The vegetation is so luxuriant and flowers spill from the balconeys, from the gardens, from everywhere. It is just so beautiful.
