The eyes of New Orleans are upon them

The New Orleans Saints return again to the Superdome tonight for their home opener against the Tennessee Titans. It was exactly 1 year ago that the Saints returned to the Superdome after playing their 2005 season home-based in San Antonio. That was while contractors did break-neck-paced repairs (below) to get the Superdome back into playable shape from damages sustained in Katrina.
The return to the Dome was such a momentuous occasion it was commemorated by a special display in the NFL Hall of Fame and captured the 2nd largest CNN audience ever as the Saints chalked a victory against the Atlanta Falcons.

The $125 million in repairs beat an initial time-to-complete estimate of 16 months by 3 months.

So with the Saints faltering in their first two games this season, the Saints fans will be pouring more team spirit on the field than ever. The game will be the Monday Night Football game this week.

Steve,

Thanks for your visit to my blog and the kind clarifications, therein.

It's good to know that those of us that get a bit stuck for words around midnite, have friends in an other hemisphere.

I hope you may be free to attend the next bonfire which will be held on the 1st weekend in june 2008.

Meantime, I'm trying to work out whether I'm looking at an optical illusion or whether these chaps are abseiling on the roof. Perhaps my illusion is simply 'un guele be bois' !!

Merci.

Great to see the building rising, phoenix-like, from the ashes...

And heartening to hear of a building project running ahead of time for a change. Many high-profile projects in the UK follow an opposite trajectory and have run very over time and budget.

I've been a diehard Saints fan since I was a little kid in the 60's-70's and have remained a Saints fan ever since. I share a cubicle at work (don't get one of my own) and have a small space for personal items which include a Saints license plate tacked to the wall and a Deuce McAllister action figure made by McFarlane Toys). We're not allowed to wear anything but "business casual" attire but my CHAIR can wear anything so for example last Monday my chair wore my gold Reggie Bush jersey.
