The horseless hitch

Horsing around a little today. I caught this image down in the French Quarter. The ring in the this horse's nose was used to hitch horse up to the curb. It has been long gone and I suppose the only wear the hitching post has gotten for many years has been the people walking past and rubbing the sidewalk ornament.

I suppose it out lived it's time. In this day and age of rapid innovation, obsolesence is a frequent occurence. We were just emptying a some boxes today and found a case of cassette audio tapes. What do you do with them? We don't own a cassette player. We do even know if any of our friends owns one.

Interesting. How can we stay the same when the world keeps churning all around us?

Hi Steve! I’m glad I could take some time to get to your wonderful blog! This time to be rewarded with a return to the French Quarter. It has been already 26 years that I was there, and can't avoid the anxiety to get back there... Thanks!

Now, do you want to have a look at a magic place: Delos, Apollo’s birthplace and home to Dionysus sanctuary? Blogtrotter has it! ;))
Hope you enjoy! Have a great weekend!

Did you know people in California would pay big bucks to have a Horseless hitch in their front yard.

There are still a few of these around my hometown in Ohio.

With the popularity of iPod's, I'm wondering how soon the CD will become obsolete.

We had a hitching post just like this in our little village of 150 souls, Gordon, Ohio, way back in the 1930s. Amazing.

And we had horses and buggies and horse troughs in town so people coming to town could pump water for their horses or themselves. Our little town had two pubic wells with water troughs.

And any town back then had at least one blacksmith. We had one who was busy all the time, making iron shoes for horses and working oxen.

A few years ago I took a similar shot on Burbon street. I loved the mix of old and new.
Ah yes, cassette tapes...what to do with them is right. I had a ton when we moved. I guess most went to the great land-fill in the sky...
