It looked just like that 50 years ago when I was studying dentistry at Loyola. If my father was alive he would say the same thing, but his memory would be of 80 years ago. When I see it today, my heart is heavy, I know it isn't really exactly what I remember. Now it's also made me tear for the city I loved.

Lovely. Timeless, really. It makes me think the French Quarter must be as much a state of mind as a place.
It has been many years but I still remember the charm and uniqueness of the French Quarter.
I can't remember exactly where I stayed...I think it was close to Esplande?

This is how I always imagine New Orleans.
I am so relieved it looks undamaged after the floods. How much water went through this area?
Jules, The French Quarter didn't flood in the hurricane. It is built along the river which is the highest part of the city (long before levees the river overflowed and built up its banks. The area along the river that includes the French Quarter and uptown is now affectionately known as "the Sliver on the River" -- an enviable place to live.
The wrought iron balcony railings are SO French Quarter!!
I really really love this photo and take me back when my heart (and not only) was broken by hurricane fury that devasted evrything. To see this photo enlarge hearts again.

I really like this photo. It does have narrow streets but seems to have a nice feel to it.
Ah the much loved French Quarter of New Orleans ....i have always wanted to visit the place...may be sometime later this year ...:)
