Standing ready.

Parade stands lay ready for the throngs along St. Charles Avenue in downtown New Orleans. It's part of the route shared night after night by the dozens of parades that ply through the crowds delivering thrill, throws and merriment for the Mardi Gras celebration.

I never realized how big a production the whole Mardi Gras multiple parades are. I never knew there were so many parades either. Thanks for all the info and great pictures.

I like seeing this photo because I have never seen downtown New Orleans and this gives me a good sense of what it is like. It's very nice. I'm glad it's not all high skyscrapers.

I wish I could head down there for mardi gras [sigh], but my husband and I just spent a week-end at Disney and it's left us a little drained. I hope to live the celebrations vicariously through your blog. As much as possible without a hand grenade at least. :)
