Rolling on the River

While my daughter's family was in town last week, we went on a tour of the Mississippi River on the steamboat Natchez. It was a hot day, but if you moved around you could find a spot where the wind was blowing enough to make you comfortable. The scenery was great. The out-of-towners seemed impressed with all the ship and barge traffic on the river.

On the left is grandson Sullivan with his back to us. Aaron is the white shirt, holding Sophie, and Vicky is on the right.

The cake? Sullivan made a friend of a young lady celebrating her birthday. She and her mom stopped by to give Sophie and Sullivan a piece of cake.

Update on yesterday's post. The paper said there were 2200 people working on the clean up. The lifting of the barge got a set back. They were welding large steel plates and hooks on the barge so they could use a crane to lift it straight up. But rain storm came in and they had to call off the welding for the day.

You grandson is quite a cutie schmoozer. Thanks for the update on the barge, too.

I always love taking a ride on the Natchez. It is the first thing my son (13) wants to do when we visit New Orleans. We are so excited about coming back to New Orleans this October.

It is an interesting post, Steve, and the photos are impressive too. I like your layout.

Steve, you're bringing back fond memories. I grew up and attended college in Austin, Texas. I took many, many road trips to New Orleans and had such fun cruising the Natchez. I'm afraid I was a bit obnoxious once and sang half the soundtrack from Show Boat. Blame it on one of those famous hurricanes. (The kind that come in a tall glass...)

Great shots. Love seeing your family!

Lovely family, Steve. The baby's a real sweetie. One of my favourite travel books is about a British guy who sails down the Mississippi in a boat and he hitches a ride on a steamboat so it's fascinating to see your photos...
(I love Tom Sawyer as well...must be something about the river that attracts me)

I like the Natchez; haven't been on it in 20 years. Isn't that the one with the out-of-tune calliope?
